Should I Lie About My Age When Applying For Jobs?

Dear Cindy,

I’m a senior marketer who was ‘let go’ last year and I’ve been finding it difficult to get a new job. I’m 54 and I’m worried that ageism is at play here. I’ve been advised to address that by ‘shortening’ my resume and my LinkedIn, doing my best to look more youthful, and not revealing my age. I’d love to know what you recommend in this situation.

I understand why this question is being asked, but the fact it has to be asked enrages me.
